i went to see charlie and the chocolate factory last night (tightass tuesday - $8 tickets) and i absolutely loved it!! i can't believe that there has been so much negativity about it. i know that johnny depp looks weird, but so did gene wilder in the original when it came out! i'd have to say that story-wise, i prefer the new one as it removed all the songs which made the story move so much faster, and more focus was placed on charlie and his family and i think this movie had a better ending - it finished properly rather than leaving us all hanging. i also liked how they showed the other children leaving the factory - as a child i was always worried about the other kids' safety as we never got to see them make it out of the factory. one bit that i found disturbing was the melting dolls. very strange. still, i like both movies, and that's that!
