lately i've rekindled my interest in cemetaries. i think it's because my work is just behind the West Tce Cemetary and we've had a few lunch time picnics near there over the past few weeks and also because we visited my grandfather's grave over the weekend, plus i found some awesome old photos from the 1800's at an antique shop the other day. it may seem weird to everyone else, but i feel very calm and relaxed whenever i go to a cemetary. i can't quite put my finger on why, but i have 2 theories. one is that i have been visiting my grandfather there since i was 2 years old and am just used to being there, and the other is that the atmosphere is created because all the dead are really resting in peace. i hope it's the latter. i love putting flowers near graves that have been neglected and also just generally looking at all the old tombstones and statues. My great grandparents are buried at West Tce, Adelaide's oldest cemetary. interesting place. apparently they do night tours and i'd love to go on one. found some interesting photos of Pere Lachaise cemetary while (funnily enough) trying to find pics of 70's and 80's bands to fill in a survey that i have. it's given me an idea - i'll bring my camera to work one day and during lunch go down there and get some arty snaps. nice and peaceful :)
